original PRR tunnel

 

This tunnel was part of the original alignment of the "Western Pennsylvania RR" that ran from Blairsville Junction northwest along the winding Conemaugh River to the Allegheny River ( and on to Pittsburgh; it was also the alternate route for the Main Line if an accident occurred ). STG Boy no 4 also found an old arch bridge on the other side of the river to the east that led to the bridge then tunnel..
