Bakers PA and the Ligonier Valley RR

west of Ligonier PA on the Loyalhanna

The bridge abutment in the Loyalhanna creek is a remnant from a Ligonier Valley RR spur that served either a coal mine or quarry on the south slope. On the 1902 USGS map below, you will find towns, some now gone, like Kingston, Bakers, McCanee, Long Bridge, Darlington, "Idlepark" now Idlewild Amusement Park, Millbank and Bells.

Also note the road that will in 1913 become the Lincoln Highway, the "Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Pike".The Darlington train station has been restored to its original beauty.
