Lower Whyel and Upper Whyel PA

northeast of Yukon PA 

This coke oven was the first in line on the left in the photo below and is still next to Whyel Road.
The remaining coke ovens and gob piles are shown in this Google aerial photo. The PRR branch headed south to Yukon. Most of the railbed is easily traced.
Moving  south to the Yukon gob pile and ballfield, you can see where the Upper Whyel branch crossed the Sewickley Creek then joined the Yukon Branch.
This bridge pier and abutment are from the Upper Whyel branch of the Pennsylvania RR, as noted in the Google aerial photo on right. This led us to the Whyel coke ovens at top. The yellow dot is a remaining oven at Upper  Whyel shown below. It has to be the closest to a road ever found.
