Does anyone know why the PRR would leave a major station in the middle of town and run on the streets ?

The Uniontown area is prime coke oven hunting area as shown in this 1900 USGS map. The map shows the PRR running right thru downtown and the National Pike, now US 40.. It pre-dates the creation of the West Penn Railways. ( see our WPRwys page for a 1939 map and our US 40 National Pike page).
